Hi everyone,

Welcome back to Term 4 of dancing – and what an exciting term it will be! This term is full steam ahead, in preparation for our annual end of year concert.

Competition Results

Over the September school holidays we had several students participate in dance competitions, many for the very first time. Congratulations to the following students who competed and represented our studio so well in both their dancing and decorum:

  • Lilli Stanley – Jazz, Lyrical & National
  • Amilee Gibson – Jazz & Tap
  • Shelby Lowe – Classical, Neo & Contemporary
  • Olivia Simone – Jazz
  • Under 13 Troupe, Jazz & Lyrical – Marnie Stanley, Maia Saunders, Grace Graham, Shelby Lowe, Amaya Cousins & Zeney Steyn
  • Under 10 Quad, Jazz – Lucy Thompson, Jemma Pantalleresco, Ava Lopizzo & Amelia Lopizzo

Fund Raising

In preparation for our QLD dance trip next year, we have several fund raising campaigns running. We are very much hoping that the entire BMDS community will be supportive of these fundraising endeavours, as many of them are easy and even beneficial to be involved in! Current fundraising campaigns include:

Trivia Night

On Saturday 15th of October at 7:00pm we are holding a Trivia Night at St. Bernard’s Parish Centre. Tickets cost $10.00 each, with tables of up to 10 people.

We are currently looking to fill tables – if you are interested in purchasing tickets or organising a table, please contact us ASAP :)

Closet Cleanout – clothes, linen and shoe donations

We are currently collecting closet items for a company that takes donations of clothing and linen to give to the less fortunate. We can receive 25 cents for every kilo donated – this may not seem like much, but it will certainly add up quickly!

Things that can be donated include: any clean, wearable adults and children’s clothing, paired shoes, hats, handbags, belts, towels, sheets, pillowcases, fabric, soft toys. This collection drive will conclude on Friday the 4th of November – donations can be brought into the studio up until this date.

Cadbury Chocolates

We are selling Cadbury Chocolates as part of our fundraising – if you would like a box to sell please let us know!

10 Year Awards

We now have quite a few students that have been at the studio for many years. If 2016 is the 10th year your child has been dancing with us, please let us know by Monday the 31st of October.

Photo Day

Our annual photo day will be taking place on Saturday the 19th of November at the studio. A schedule for this day will be placed on the noticeboard shortly.

Photos will be available for purchase at the studio on Tuesday 28th of November, between 4:00-6:00pm.

Concert Rehearsal

This year’s concert rehearsal will take place on Friday the 9th of December at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Ballarat. The first half will commence at 9:00am, with the second half following at 12:00pm.

There will be a brief backstage theatre tour for all new parents interested at 9:00am.

Students are to be signed in and out at the back door of the theatre, with no parents permitted to enter, excluding parents of pre-schoolers and those completing the tour.

The running order for the concert has been posted on the noticeboard in the foyer.

End of Year Concert

Our annual concert will be held on Saturday the 10th of December, 2:00pm, at Her Majesty’s Theatre Ballarat.

Tickets will be available via the Her Majesty’s website from 9:00am on Monday the 14th of November. Simply click on the ‘What’s On’ tab to find our concert. Ticket prices are:

  • Adults – $38.00
  • Concession (Students & Pension Card Holders) – $30.00
  • Children (16yrs and under) – $25.00

Please note – dancers are required to have a ticket and should only be backstage when they are preparing for a dance item.

Shelley’s departure

It is with great sadness that we see Shelley Skinner, one of our beautiful teachers, depart BMDS for the remainder of the year. Shelley has been offered a contract performing on Norwegian Cruise Lines and has already left for 2 weeks of intense rehearsals in America before flying to Europe later this month to begin performing. While we are all saddened to say goodbye for now to  such an amazing teacher, we wish Shelley all the best in her international performances and congratulate her on her selection!

Shelley’s classes will be taken by Jacquelyn McCarthy for the remainder of term 4. Jacquelyn is an experienced and energetic performer and teacher and we are very excited to have her joining us this term.

We are looking forward to seeing our students continue to push themselves and grow as dancers and performers this term. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us.

Warm Regards,

Hayley Inglis
